The Summer Residency for 2008 will activate the gallery as a site for
action, pause and reflection - with a month of dance, sculpture and
research.
Laura Preston has begun her occupation of the gallery as a
workspace for research on contemporary sculptural practice. Exploring
its concerns and methods of making, Preston will focus on sculpture's
relationship to movement and connection to dance. This research will
form the basis of her later exhibition at Enjoy.
Movement
Dance groups and individual practitioners have also commenced
using Enjoy's light filled gallery space for rehearsal, performance and
the devising of new works. These classes and sessions will be open for
the public to view.
Week 1:
Claire Lissaman and Ellen Loui August practice at Enjoy Tuesday -
Friday, 10am - 6pm. Performance will take place on Saturday January 19,
11am-3pm, on the hour every hour.

Facing the Moment: Notes on forming fun while informing the future
Talk at Enjoy Friday 1 Feburary, 6pm
Artist and Writer, Amy Howden-Chapman will talk about Face book, the
problems facing politically engaged art and what performance art can
learn from dance.
Followed by discussion and Friday night drinks.
Sculpture
Activity and movement within the gallery will build over time,
culminating in an archive of visual material. From January 29 to mid
February Preston will be joined by Auckland-based artist Xin Cheng, who
will inhabit the gallery to make work.
A film screening and forum discussion in the final week of the
residency will provide insight into the accumulation of research and
findings.

Preston is the first Enjoy Summer Resident to benefit from a new
initiative, which sees the researching resident return to Enjoy for an
exhibition later in 2008. This exhibition will also be supported by a
book published by Enjoy.
The gallery will be open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10am - 6pm, and late
night Thursday until 8pm. Please come by and investigate Enjoy in a
state of accumulating research and movement.
